Difference of Galvanized Gabion Mesh and Plastic-Coated Gabion Mesh

Both products are essential for construction and landscaping applications like erosion control, retaining walls, and riverbank protection, but they are designed to meet different requirements.

1.Material Composition

Galvanized gabion mesh are made from high-quality steel wire that has been coated with a layer of zinc to prevent rust and corrosion. The zinc coating provides protection for the wire, making it durable in most outdoor conditions.

Plastic-coated gabion mesh are made from galvanized steel wire, but they have an additional layer of plastic (usually PVC) coating applied on top of the zinc layer. This extra coating offers enhanced protection against corrosion and environmental damage, making them more durable in harsh conditions.

2. Durability and Corrosion Resistance

While galvanized gabion mesh are durable and resistant to corrosion, they are best suited for moderate environmental conditions. The zinc coating provides adequate protection against the elements but may wear over time, especially in highly acidic or coastal environments.

The plastic coating on these mesh offers superior corrosion resistance compared to galvanized-only mesh. This makes plastic-coated gabion mesh ideal for highly corrosive environments, such as coastal areas or regions with extreme weather conditions. The plastic layer acts as an extra barrier to environmental damage, ensuring the longevity of the meshes.            

3. Appearance

Galvanized gabion mesh have a metallic silver finish due to the zinc coating. While they are functional and durable, their appearance might not blend well with certain landscaping projects or environments that require aesthetic consideration.

One of the main advantages of plastic-coated gabion mesh is their aesthetic appeal.The plastic coating can be made in various colors, providing a smooth and glossy finish that blends better with the surrounding landscape. This is particularly beneficial for landscaping projects or urban developments where appearance matters.
